    Thank you so much for this. I have the English-to-Latin dictionary but hearing the correct pronunciation helps a great deal. Also: Is it really necessary to roll the R's?

    Latin is one of the most backwards languages other than legalism idk how it was ever a common language ancient Greek is my go too for ancient even frisian is easier Latin or Roman is so unnatural and i doubt modern day historians will even understand the actual concepts from desimating your own troops to classifying the same thing multiple times to a legal system that couldnt be more eastern philosophy and primitive when compared to ancient greek or English/British Roman isnt much different than middle eastern philosophy and law accept its much more idk how to say this cruel maybe relentless its harsh to an error we have a similair harshness in viking law except the viking law has an aspect of nature were rome does not they denotionalize things or take away from its worth by categorizing every thing a dog becomes canine lupas mammal ect when a dog is either wild or not and from an area so a dog from spain becomes these things lupas canine mammal but it was a dog from Spain youve lost something or a wild dog from germans forest now its all these things so is it wild or not nobody knows youve denotionalized it maybe it already has a name like chienne doggy in other languages all this becomes lost and its origins are lost in this Latin.

    A fantastic video there, Thank you for this. One question, though-- at 4:03 you said "a vowel before another vowel is usually short, make sure it's not a diphthong" and then you proceeded to mark the 'e' in 'meis' as a short vowel, when 'ei' is a diphthong! Made me a bit confused there.

  • @dianeallen5803
    @dianeallen5803 Год назад

    Isn't a syllable with a diphthong long by nature, not long by position? The slides would be more helpful if they included macrons. Last, I don't understand why the first syllable of mutatas must be long other than it has to be long in order to make a spondee. That seems like it's the tail wagging the dog, but if that's the case, it's fine with me. Thanks, Benjamin! I love your videos and have used them for years.

    Mr Johnson,For me the million dollar question is,can you encode secret messages into text using dactyl hexameters? The reason I ask is Paul used a dactyl when he wrote to Titus and this is it Κρῆτες ἀεὶ ψεῦσται κακὰ θηρία γαστέρες ἀργαί Which is translated Creatans are always liars evil beast gluttons lazy. From Homer the creatans were chosen for their swift ships and were priest of Apollo so either Paul was eluding to these false teachers as priest of the cult of Apollo or this is an encoded message. Any help will be appreciated.

    Optime. Very good job. The lines are famous, of course. There's something common between Catullus and Shakespeare - in the psychology of their poetry, and in their attitude to life.

      Thank you for responding to my Q, and I hope my Ben will get to do such a cool project, eventually. Ben, I am a homeschool mom teaching myself Latin along with my 14 year old son. I am about 1/2 way through first year Henle, and during summer we read Familia Romana at an easy pace with his friends. Honestly, I am considering switching to Cambridge so that I will have the advantage of your corresponding videos. I also noticed NLE is based on that curriculum. My son may want to continue Henle with our Classical Conversations community. But I think I may be better able to oversee his work under your RUclips tutelage. I love your channel, especially for pronunciation. Can you give me any suggestions?

    This method makes sense but presumably if you're doing the scansion of Latin poetry, you know a little Latin as well and you'd know that ab has a short vowel and that the second a in aspirate is definitely long
